Date: May 19, 2010
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Veterans

Today, Congressman Scott Murphy (NY-20) sent a letter to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, and House Appropriations Committee Chairman David Obey urging them to provide funding in the upcoming supplemental appropriations bill for disability compensation for veterans who were exposed to Agent Orange during Vietnam-era conflicts.

"For too long we have failed to live up to our responsibility to these brave veterans, and I urge you to include the necessary funding for these veterans in the supplemental appropriations bill," said Rep. Murphy. "There is no greater sacrifice than putting your life on the line for your country. And while we hold our veterans in the highest regard and thank them for their service, we must remain vigilant in guaranteeing that the care and benefits they receive reflects the gratitude and respect they deserve."

Congressman Murphy has made fighting for veterans a priority during his first year in office. As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, he has fought to get our men and women in the armed services the resources they need to do their jobs safely and successfully. Murphy has also worked with "Blue Water Navy" veterans across the country to get them the disability benefits they deserve due to injuries caused by exposure to Agent Orange.
